I interviewed Mott Hall 2’s new Latin teacher, Malina Buturovic, and asked her about her road from college to working at Mott Hall 2 and her opinion about the school so far!
Luka: What did you do before you came to Mott Hall 2?
Ms. B: I studied Greek and Latin at Yale University.
L: Why did you study Latin?
Ms. B: I decided that I wanted to study Latin in college. I also was very interested in theater and I started to learn Greek and Latin ever since I read the Aeneid, a beautiful long poem, which I read in four of my college classes. I like it because it has one of the most awesome female characters in Latin literature.
L: How is your experience at Mott Hall 2 been so far?
Ms. B: I think Mott Hall 2 scholars are very enthusiastic and very friendly. They like the work I am giving them and they are catching on to Latin very quickly.
L: Why did you choose Mott Hall 2?
Ms. B: I chose Mott Hall 2 because when I first met Mr. Lowe he was so great and I knew he had to run a great school. When I got to see the kids at work I knew it was a great school and the kids seemed so open to learning and are very creative.
L: What are your goals for teaching this year?
Ms. B: I hope to teach kids how to think to give information using language and the content of this theme is origin stories. I want kids to understand why we are learning Latin. and I think it is awesome to learn a living language. I hope we keep having class discussions. Those have been some of my best moments at Mott Hall 2.
L: Do you have any pets?
Ms. B: I don’t have any pets but, I am definitely a cat person. My dream pet would be a goat because goats have very strong personalities and they do their own thing.
