When we started this newspaper, we had big plans.
Yes, we were already thinking about having as many sections as The New York Times; yes, we were already thinking about posting it on the internet; yes, we were thinking about having one newspaper issue per month (which is already a handful). Some of those things actually did work out as planned: we do have about as many sections in our newspaper as The New York Times, and it is online. Some things, on the other hand, could not be done, at least not for now. However, everything starts out slow before it picks up speed, and we give you our word that within a few years, if not less, the newspaper will offer one issue per month, with few to no setbacks.
The reason that we started this newspaper, primarily, was to let the students write what they wanted (still within the boundaries of what is publishable, though) and to spread information and students’ opinions faster than is possible now, even though that’s already pretty fast. Our second reason was to have fun, reading and writing, drawing possibly, and to let other people see what you think, what you do; just plain think out of the box. Who knows: it might also be an opportunity for the new 6th graders to find their place in the Mott Hall II community.
We would like to make this newspaper as enjoyable as possible for Mott Hall II students. That is why we have put these next pages at your disposition, for you to read, any where from Mott Hall II to your home or a nearby library, to Australia even, if you go there. But, enough said: read the next pages and enjoy Mott Hall II’s first newspaper, Inside the Halls.
